Learning Goal: Solve Optimization Problems, Investigate how changing the dimensions of a plane figure or solid varies its area or volume and determine the maximum and minimum quantities in a situation involving basic geometry

Text reference: 3.6 (see attached)

These problems can be a fun challenge, but they can also be very frustrating if you’re not getting them. Depending on how people are doing, more solutions and hints will be posted. When you are asking a question, say what you have already done and refer to a specific step in the problem. It is not very helpful to say ‘How do I do #whatever..?” Your teacher can post the solution but that only gives you the answer, not the problem solving skill.

Day 4
This was assigned last week. If you have finished it go on to the next day’s work.
Do questions 3.6 #4-5 in the text. - Check this animation for #4 https://www.geogebra.org/m/ctn8r9uv   The solutions for these problems are attached.

Watch Lesson Part 2 and Part 3 and do Exercises #5-7   https://courseware.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/11/23/assignments/97/0  You might find it helpful to download Part 3 from the Alternative section and keep it in front of you while solving problems. They won’t work if you are not following those key steps closely.

Do questions 3.6 #8-9 in the text

Day 2
A problem will be posted at 9:00 am. Download and do it, then scan your solution and email it to dbrooks@ntcs.on.ca by 9:30 even if you have not finished. Please do this by yourself without consulting classmates, notes, etc. It is important that both you and your teacher know what you have mastered so far. (Please communicate in advance if you know that you will not be able to do this assignment during our normal class time. Please do not send pictures. There are lots of good scanning apps for your phone.)

Watch Part 4 of the Couseware video and do 3.6 #7 in the text and #8,10,11 in the Courseware.https://courseware.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/11/assignments/97/3

Day 3
Do as many as you can of these problems in the textbook 3.6 #14,16,18-20,25

Day 4
Catch up on the material we have done so far. Complete your Learning Log and email it to your teacher. You can add to the Learning Log you used last week or use the template attached.
